Al Shabab approach Yasser Ibrahim as Al Ahly await formal offer
Al Shabab have contacted Al Ahly defender Yasser Ibrahim to ask whether he would be interested in moving to the Saudi club next season.
FilGoal understands that the Saudi side has held verbal discussions with the 33-year-old Egypt international about a possible transfer. Ibrahim has informed Al Ahly that Al Shabab have spoken to him, but no formal proposal has yet been received by the Egyptian club.
Al Ahly have told the player that they are waiting for an official offer before deciding whether to consider the approach. The club’s position is that any potential move must first be presented formally so it can be assessed.
Alongside waiting for developments from Saudi Arabia, Al Ahly have made their own attempt to retain Ibrahim. The club has offered him a new contract lasting two additional seasons, with the defender set to receive 25m Egyptian pounds per season.
That offer places Ibrahim’s future at the centre of discussions as Al Shabab explore the possibility of bringing him to the Saudi Pro League. At this stage, the approach remains verbal and the next step depends on whether the Saudi club submits a formal bid.
Ibrahim joined Al Ahly at the beginning of 2019 after moving from Smouha. Since arriving at the club, he has made 236 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists.
His performances for Al Ahly have also seen him establish himself as an international defender with Egypt. Now aged 33, he is being considered by Al Shabab while Al Ahly seek to extend his stay in Cairo.
The situation remains unresolved, with Al Ahly awaiting an official proposal from Al Shabab and having already placed a two-year contract extension on the table. The Saudi club’s initial contact has therefore opened discussions, but no agreement has been reached over a transfer or a new contract.
The approach comes as clubs assess their squads for the 2026-27 season. For Ibrahim, the options currently involve continuing with Al Ahly under the terms of the proposed extension or considering a move to Saudi Arabia if Al Shabab follow their initial contact with a formal offer.
FilGoal reported the developments on Sunday, 2 August 2026.
