Al Shabab announce Ghana international Thomas Partey signing
Al Shabab have officially announced the signing of Ghana international Thomas Partey, with the experienced midfielder becoming the latest addition to the club’s squad during the current summer transfer window.
The Saudi club confirmed the move on Friday through its official account on X, publishing a video to welcome the 33-year-old. The post carried the message: “نجم عالمي يضيء شمال العاصمة، من ارض الذهب في قلب ادغال افريقيا” describing a global star lighting up the north of the capital after arriving from the “land of gold” in the heart of Africa’s jungles.
Partey’s arrival completes a deal intended to strengthen Al Shabab with a player who has extensive experience in European and international football. The club, known as the Lions, are preparing for the new season and hope his presence will add both quality and authority to their midfield.
The Ghanaian reached Riyadh on Thursday evening, when he was welcomed by several Al Shabab officials. He then travelled to hospital to undergo a medical examination, part of the formal procedures completed before the club announced the agreement.
Partey has built a long career at a number of prominent European clubs. His previous teams include Atletico de Madrid and Villarreal in Spain, as well as Arsenal in England. That background has given him significant experience of major competitions and the demands of playing under pressure.
During the previous season, Partey played 32 matches for Villarreal in all competitions. He did not score or provide an assist in those appearances. He also represented Ghana at the 2026 World Cup before deciding to begin a new chapter outside Europe by joining the Roshn Saudi League.
Al Shabab are hoping Partey’s experience will make a significant difference as they seek to improve their performances in the coming campaign. The club believe his record at the highest levels of the game, together with his technical and personal qualities, can help them build a stronger squad and compete more effectively.
His move brings an end to his latest period in European football and gives Al Shabab a midfielder accustomed to elite competition. The club are placing particular value on the knowledge he has gained from playing for Atletico de Madrid, Villarreal and Arsenal, as well as from his international career with Ghana.
The announcement follows the completion of the medical and administrative steps that took place after Partey’s arrival in the Saudi capital. With the signing now formalised, Al Shabab can begin integrating the Ghana international into their preparations for the new season.
