Al Nassr vice-president appeals for unity before new Saudi Pro League season

Al Nassr vice-president Khaled Al-Malik has called on the club’s supporters to remain united and back the team as it prepares to begin the 2026-27 season, amid financial difficulties that have so far prevented the Saudi club from making a summer signing.

Al Nassr have not completed a single transfer during the current summer window, despite reaching an agreement with Samu Costa, the Real Mallorca midfielder from Portugal. The proposed deal has been affected by the financial restrictions imposed on the club.

With the new campaign due to begin in less than a week, Al-Malik used his personal account on X to reassure supporters that the situation would improve.

“Our dear fans, the difficulties will be resolved soon, God willing,” he wrote.

He acknowledged the pressure surrounding the club but said preparations for the first competitive fixture of the season remained the priority.

“But no matter how much the pressure and talk increase, our focus remains in the right place. Your club is preparing for its first official match in less than a week, and this deserves all our energy and attention,” Al-Malik added.

Al Nassr will open their Roshn Saudi League campaign against Al Fateh on Saturday, 15 August. The fixture will be played in the first round of the competition.

Al-Malik also urged supporters to attend matches and offer the kind of backing they have traditionally given the team, regardless of the circumstances.

“We invite you all to stand behind the team through your presence, support and encouragement, as you have always done in good times and bad. Together we move forward, and together we will win, God willing,” he said.

The message comes at a difficult point for Al Nassr, who are attempting to maintain their position at the top of Saudi football while dealing with restrictions in the transfer market. The club’s failure to add a player during the summer window has increased attention on its preparations ahead of the new season.

Al Nassr are aiming to retain the Saudi league title after winning it last season, ending a seven-year wait for the championship. They will also pursue a first-ever AFC Champions League Elite title in the coming campaign.

The club’s immediate focus, however, is the opening league match against Al Fateh. Al-Malik’s appeal places particular emphasis on the role of the supporters, asking them to support the squad while the club works to resolve the difficulties affecting its transfer activity.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding recruitment, the vice-president insisted that the team’s attention remained fixed on its first official match and called for the club and its fans to move forward together.
