Al-Nassr move to renew Nawaf Boushal contract before January free-agency window

Al-Nassr have opened talks to extend Nawaf Boushal’s contract as they attempt to secure the full-back’s future before he enters the free-agency period in January.

The Saudi club are keen to avoid losing Boushal for nothing and want to retain a player who has established himself as one of their most important performers in recent seasons.

According to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah, Al-Nassr’s management has decided to act well ahead of the deadline, when Boushal would be able to sign for another club without needing permission from his current employers.

The club intend to accelerate negotiations in the coming period rather than leave discussions until the final weeks of his existing deal. The approach underlines their desire to keep the defender at Al-Nassr.

However, reaching an agreement with Boushal over the terms of a new contract is not expected to be the principal obstacle. The more difficult stage will be securing approval from the Financial Oversight Committee before the renewal can be formally completed.

Al-Riyadiyah reported that this approval represents the biggest challenge in finalising the agreement, with Al-Nassr facing closer scrutiny over new contracts and renewals. The club have also recently encountered difficulties in their efforts to extend Abdulrahman Ghareeb’s contract.

Boushal joined Al-Nassr in January 2023 from Al-Fateh, after the club bought the remaining period of his contract. He quickly became a regular and an important part of the team.

The full-back has made 131 appearances for Al-Nassr in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing 18 assists, according to Transfermarkt.
