The AFC has postponed Al Nassr’s AFC Champions League Elite league-phase match against Al Wasl, which was due to take place on Monday at King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh.
The Asian Football Confederation confirmed the decision in an official statement but did not provide a reason for the postponement. It also said the rearranged date and kick-off time would be announced in due course.
The decision disrupts the plans of both clubs as they look to improve difficult starts to the competition.
Al Nassr are eighth in the Western Region standings with three points. They began their campaign with a victory before suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat by fellow Saudi Pro League side Al Ain.
Al Wasl’s opening two matches have both ended in defeat. They lost to Al Qadsiah and Al Ahli and are 14th in the table without a point.
The postponement comes before a fixture that had been important to both sides as they attempt to move into the qualification places for the knockout stage.
Under the AFC Champions League Elite format, the top eight clubs from both the Western and Eastern Regions progress to the round of 16. The competition then continues through a series of knockout rounds to determine the continental champions.
Saudi Arabia is scheduled to host the tournament’s final stages, from the quarter-finals through to the final. Those matches will be played in a centralised format between 23 April and 1 May 2027.
No replacement date for the Al Nassr-Al Wasl match has yet been confirmed.
