Al Mokawloon Al Arab agree deal to sign Mauritanian forward Idrissa Thiam
Al Mokawloon Al Arab have reached an agreement to sign Mauritanian forward Idrissa Thiam from Qatari second-tier club Muaither, according to FilGoal.com.
Thiam, 25, has been playing for Muaither in the Qatar Second Division and is set to become the latest addition to Al Mokawloon Al Arab’s squad ahead of the new season.
The forward made 27 appearances for the Qatari club, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists. His performances have helped attract the attention of the Egyptian side, who have now completed an agreement to bring him to the club.
The deal is yet to be formally announced by Al Mokawloon Al Arab, but the agreement over Thiam’s transfer has been reached.
The move is part of an active recruitment period for the club. Al Mokawloon Al Arab previously confirmed the signing of Mohamed Ammar from Ismaily, adding further experience to their squad.
They have also brought in Shady Hussein, Mohamed Sandouqa, Youssef Safina, Anas Bani Ouda, Sherif Reda and Mido Gaber.
Sami Qomsan will remain in charge for another season after taking over the team during the second half of last campaign. The 50-year-old manager guided Al Mokawloon Al Arab through 32 matches in all competitions.
During that run, the team recorded 10 victories, 16 draws and six defeats.
Al Mokawloon Al Arab ended last season seventh in the relegation group with 38 points. Their recruitment plans, including the agreement to sign Thiam, come as they look to strengthen the squad and improve on that campaign.
Thiam’s scoring record in Qatar will be a major source of interest for the club. The Mauritanian has scored 21 times in 27 matches for Muaither, while also contributing 10 assists, and is expected to add another attacking option to Qomsan’s team if the transfer is completed.
The agreement was reported on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.
