Al Masry have extended the contract of Algeria international Abdelrahim Deghmoum until the summer of 2029, ending speculation that the midfielder could return to the Algerian league.

The 27-year-old had attracted interest from two leading Algerian clubs, Mouloudia Club d’Alger and USM Alger, but has opted to continue his career with the Egyptian side, as revealed by FilGoal.com.

Deghmoum’s previous agreement with Al Masry was due to expire at the end of next season. The new deal adds two further seasons to his contract and secures his future at the club for the next three years.

Al Masry said a renewal agreement had been reached after Mohamed Moussa, a member of the club’s board and supervisor of the first team, held a direct meeting with the player to discuss the terms.

The club’s statement said: “Al Masry club’s board, headed by Kamel Abu Ali, has successfully completed the renewal of the contract of its player Abdelrahim Deghmoum after Mohamed Moussa, a member of the board and supervisor of the first team, held a direct meeting with the player to discuss the details of the renewal, amid the administration’s desire to protect Deghmoum from the repeated offers he has received during the recent period.

“The meeting resulted in a final agreement between both parties, with the Algerian player deciding to continue his journey with Al Masry, preferring to remain on the ‘Eagles’ journey.”

Deghmoum joined Al Masry in 2022 from Algerian club ES Setif. Since arriving in Egypt, he has made 111 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and providing 13 assists.

He has also won the Egypt Capital Cup with Al Masry.

Deghmoum began the current Egyptian Premier League campaign on the substitutes’ bench, coming on during Al Masry’s opening-round match against Smouha.

His decision to stay with Al Masry comes after his name was linked with a move to Al Ahly last summer. However, no transfer was completed, and the attacking midfielder will now remain part of Al Masry’s plans.

Al Masry are preparing to face Pyramids on Monday in the third round of the Egyptian Premier League. The club’s decision to renew Deghmoum’s contract ensures the player will remain available as they continue their domestic campaign and seek to build on his contribution since his arrival from Algeria.
