Al Masry snatched a hard-fought 1–0 win away to Haras El Hodood on Thursday evening at the new Suez Stadium, in the third round of Group 3 in the Egypt Capital Cup.
Karim Bambo scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute of a tense game that stayed competitive right until the final whistle. The match saw an early blow for Haras El Hodood when defender Moataz Mohamed suffered a heavy facial injury and was forced off after just 12 minutes, while Masri dominated possession without creating enough clear chances for long spells.
Tunisian coach Nabil Kouki turned to his bench to inject life into Masry’s attack, bringing on Omar El Saai, Mido Gaber, Karim Bambo and Ahmed Amer. Bambo eventually rewarded that bold approach with a late winner that gave Masry three precious points and lifted them to the top of Group 3 with seven points, ahead of Zamalek’s clash with Smouha later in the evening.
Before facing Smouha, Zamalek sit second on four points, while Smouha are sixth with just one point. Haras El Hodood remain bottom of the group with no points after back-to-back defeats, including a previous loss to Zamalek.
In Group 2, Gouna drew 1–1 at home with National Bank, as Ahmed Amin Oufa scored a first-half penalty for the visitors before Ahmed Gamal equalized on 65 minutes. Gouna now lead that group with seven points, while National Bank are third on five.
