Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG, has openly criticized Michel Platini and UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations in a sharp interview with Le Parisien. He expressed strong frustration, saying:
“I don’t know if Michel Platini wants to kill French football, but financial fair play isn’t fair. It’s even difficult to understand.”
Al-Khelaïfi argued that the FFP rules essentially maintain the status quo, where “big clubs stay big and small clubs stay small,” making it harder for ambitious clubs like PSG to invest heavily. He also mentioned PSG’s intent to discuss potential changes with UEFA in October, warning that if the rules remain as they are, investors might stop coming to football altogether.
Interestingly, he denied that the club’s recent transfer slowdown was solely due to FFP, stating that even without these financial restrictions, PSG would not have signed Ángel Di María during this window.
This shows clear tension between PSG’s ambitions and UEFA’s regulatory approach under Platini’s leadership.
