Al-Jabalain add Nigeria winger Rasheed Akanbi after free-agent spell

Nigeria winger Rasheed Akanbi has joined Al-Jabalain as a free agent, moving to the Saudi First Division League club at the age of 27.

The left winger had been without a club since leaving Turkish side Boluspor in April 2026. He now begins his latest chapter in Saudi Arabia, with the move completed on 13 August.

Akanbi spent the 2025-26 season with Boluspor after joining the club from Moldovan side FC Sheriff on a free transfer in July 2025. His time in Turkey followed a successful spell with Sheriff, where he established himself as a regular attacking player and won domestic honours.

The Lagos-born forward helped Sheriff win the Moldavian championship in the 2022-23 season and lifted the Moldavian Cup twice, in 2022-23 and 2024-25. He was also named the league’s top goalscorer during Sheriff’s title-winning campaign, scoring eight goals in the Super Liga, and was recognised as the club’s Striker of the Year for 2021-22.

Akanbi’s record with Sheriff included 22 appearances and 10 goals in the Super Liga, as well as eight goals in 25 matches during the competition’s second phase. He also scored nine goals in 11 Moldavian Cup appearances. In European competition, he made six appearances in the Europa League and six in Champions League qualifying, scoring two goals in each.

The right-footed winger is listed at 1.90m and has played primarily on the left side of attack. His career has also included spells with Kocaelispor and Menemenspor in Turkey, as well as earlier moves through Tire Belediye, Foca Belediye, Future PA and Buckswood FA.

Akanbi’s move to Al-Jabalain is his third club change since leaving Kocaelispor for Sheriff in July 2022. That transfer was completed for €108,000, while his move from Menemenspor to Kocaelispor six months earlier cost €61,000.

He joins Al-Jabalain with a current market value of €500,000 and becomes the latest stage of a career that has included Turkish football, Moldovan domestic success and European competition. Rasheed Akanbi’s transfer to Al-Jabalain was completed on 13 August 2026.
