Al-Ittihad’s pursuit of Morocco star Amrabat hits €5m stumbling block

Al-Ittihad’s bid to sign Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat has stalled after the Saudi Pro League club and Fenerbahce failed to agree on the midfielder’s transfer fee.

The Saudi side is keen to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new season and has identified the Atlas Lions star as one of its priority targets following the departure of Brazilian midfielder Fabinho.

According to Turkish newspaper Fanatik, Al-Ittihad has submitted an official offer worth €15 million, with additional performance-related bonuses, in an effort to persuade Fenerbahce to part with the 28-year-old.

Fenerbahce standing firm

Despite the proposal, the Turkish club is reportedly unwilling to lower its asking price.

Fenerbahce are said to be demanding a guaranteed €20 million for Amrabat, leaving a gap of around €5 million between the two clubs’ valuations.

Negotiations are continuing as both sides attempt to find a financial agreement that could allow the deal to progress before the transfer window closes.

Amrabat remains a sought-after midfielder

Amrabat has emerged as one of Al-Ittihad’s preferred midfield targets because of his experience at both club and international level.

The Moroccan international has established himself as a key player for Fenerbahce after previous spells with Fiorentina and Manchester United, while his performances for Morocco at major international tournaments have further enhanced his reputation.

His consistent displays have attracted interest from several clubs this summer, with Al-Ittihad now hoping a compromise can be reached to bring the experienced midfielder to Saudi Arabia.
