Al-Ittihad of Alexandria’s loyal fans left the Alexandria Stadium with heavy hearts on Thursday night as their team suffered a second straight defeat in the Egyptian Premier League.
The side’s slow start to the season deepened with a 2-1 loss to visiting Modern Sport in the second round.
The visitors struck early when Mohamed Helal converted a penalty in the fifth minute. Just before halftime, Mahmoud Rizk doubled the lead in the 45+6 minute, leaving Al-Ittihad facing an uphill battle.
The hosts pushed forward in the closing stages, urged on by their supporters, and were finally rewarded when Fadi Farid pulled one back in the 90+1 minute. But it was too late to salvage a point.
Modern Sport’s win moves them up to 4 points and into second place, while Al-Ittihad sit at the bottom of the table with no points from two games.
Elsewhere, Zed drew 0-0 with Ceramica Cleopatra at Cairo Stadium. Zed now lead the standings with 4 points, while Ceramica picked up their first point of the campaign.
