Libyan giants Al-Ittihad have taken a significant step to strengthen their defensive line with the capture of Algerian centre-back Adem Alilet from USM Alger.
The Tripoli-based side confirmed the signing through their official social media channels, posting a photo of the 27-year-old in the club jersey alongside a glowing description of his qualities.
Al-Ittihad hailed Alilet as “a rock against which opposing attacks break, a warrior at the rank of general capable of leading the backline,” signalling the high expectations resting on the defender.
Alilet arrives following several standout seasons in Algeria’s Ligue 1, where he established himself as a dependable presence for USM Alger.
Known for his physicality, sharp positional awareness, and leadership on the pitch, the defender quickly became one of the league’s most trusted performers. His consistency and composure have attracted attention from several clubs outside Algeria, making his move to Libya a strategic acquisition for Al-Ittihad.
Local reports indicate that head coach Khaled Ben Yahia played a pivotal role in securing the deal. The Tunisian coach, who monitored Alilet closely during his time at MC Alger, was impressed by the defender’s ability to marshal a defence and saw him as a perfect fit for Al-Ittihad’s rebuilding plans.
The signing comes at a crucial time for the Libyan outfit, who endured a disappointing campaign last season.
Al-Ittihad struggled domestically, falling short in the league and Libyan Cup, while also suffering an early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup. With Alilet joining their ranks, the club hopes to add stability at the back and lay the foundation for a stronger domestic and continental campaign.
