Al Ittihad Alexandria’s Ahmed Adel ‘Dola’ faces full-season absence after ACL surgery
Ahmed Adel, known as “Dola”, has undergone surgery after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament while on duty with the Egypt national basketball team.
The Al Ittihad Alexandria player sustained the knee injury during Egypt’s training camp in Turkey, where the squad had been preparing for the World Cup qualifiers. He is now expected to miss the whole of next season as he recovers.
Al Ittihad Alexandria head coach Ahmed Omar and members of his coaching staff visited Dola in hospital to offer their support following the operation. Several of the club’s players were also present, including Mido Taha, Ali Ahmed, Yassin Yasser, Malek Yasser and Mohamed Khaled.
The injury represents a major setback for Dola ahead of the new campaign and leaves Al Ittihad Alexandria facing the prospect of being without one of their players for the entire season.
The club had already begun strengthening its squad before the injury, completing the signings of three players ahead of next season. They are Malek Yasser Abu El-Fotouh, Sami Al-Iraqi and Ahmed Yasser Rihane.
Dola’s operation follows his involvement with Egypt’s preparations in Turkey for the World Cup qualifying campaign. The injury occurred during that camp and required surgical treatment to repair the damaged knee ligament.
