Zamalek suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Al Ittihad Alexandria on Thursday evening at Borg El Arab Stadium, in the fourth round of Group C of the Egypt Capital Cup.
The Alexandria side dominated from the start and quickly punished Zamalek’s youthful lineup.
Striker Fadi Farid struck twice in quick succession, scoring in the 22nd and 27th minutes after defensive lapses from the visitors. Nigerian forward John Ebuka added a third goal in the 64th minute, taking advantage of another mistake at the back to seal a comfortable win.
The victory is Al Ittihad’s first in the competition under coach Tamer Mostafa and lifts the team to 6 points, second in the group, one point behind leaders Al Masry.
Zamalek, who relied on a group of academy players under coach Tamer Abdel Hamid, remain on 4 points and slip to fifth place in the standings.
The club continues to go through a difficult period, amid the recent resignation of coach Ahmed Abdel Raouf and reports that senior players refused to play due to unpaid dues. During the second half, Al Ittihad introduced several names like Mohamed Kanaria, Mohamed Toni and Ebuka, while Zamalek brought on more youngsters, including Ziad Medhat and Mohamed El Hossary.
