Al Hilal’s Ahmed Salem has reached out to Mauritanian supporters, urging them to rally behind the Sudanese side as they prepare to face Egypt’s Al Ahly in a crucial CAF Champions League quarter-final second leg.
The Blues suffered a 0-1 defeat in the first leg, and now the stakes are high for the rematch set for next Tuesday at Cheikha Bedia Stadium in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
Salem issued an apology to the team’s faithful after the initial setback, promising a fierce fight to turn the tide.
In a post on Al Hilal’s official Facebook page, he said, “We apologize to Al Hilal fans for the loss to Al Ahli, and we are waiting for Tuesday to make up for it and qualify for the Champions League semi-finals.”
“This is a message to the Mauritanian fans to come to the stadium for the match against Al-Ahly. We look forward to their support to advance, make them happy, and continue the journey,” he added.
With Sudan’s security issues forcing the team to play in Mauritania, the winner will meet either Mamelodi Sundowns or Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the semi-finals.
