Al Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi provides positive Kalidou Koulibaly fitness update ahead of league opener
Al-Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi has expressed satisfaction with Kalidou Koulibaly’s pre-season preparations ahead of the club’s opening Saudi Pro League fixture against Al-Faisaly on Friday, August 14.
The Senegal international has been working his way back to full fitness after struggling with a thigh injury that had kept him out since April.
Koulibaly’s injury prevented him from completing the previous campaign with Al-Hilal and also affected his preparations with the Senegal national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the experienced defender was reportedly not at his physical best.
With the new Saudi Pro League season now set to begin, there had been interest in Koulibaly’s condition and whether he would be ready to feature for Al-Hilal.
Inzaghi has now provided an encouraging update, revealing that the former Chelsea defender has been fully involved with the squad during pre-season.
The Italian coach explained that Koulibaly has been with the team since July 22 and has participated in regular training sessions alongside his teammates.
The 35-year-old has also featured in several friendly matches during Al-Hilal’s preparations, giving Inzaghi confidence that he has made satisfactory progress ahead of the competitive campaign.
Inzaghi’s assessment will come as welcome news to Al-Hilal supporters, particularly after Koulibaly’s injury problems disrupted the final stages of last season.
The Senegalese centre-back remains an important figure in Al-Hilal’s defensive plans, and his availability could provide a major boost as the Saudi giants begin another demanding campaign.
Al-Hilal are scheduled to face Al-Faisaly in their first Saudi Pro League match of the 2026/27 season on August 14, with attention now turning to whether Koulibaly will be included in Inzaghi’s starting XI or managed carefully after his recent injury setback.
For now, however, the Italian manager appears satisfied with the defender’s progress and believes his pre-season work has put him in a good position to begin the new campaign.
