Al Hilal hold off Al Faisaly to begin Jawy Elite League campaign with victory
Al Hilal recovered from conceding after just two minutes to beat Al Faisaly 2-1 in the opening round of the second edition of the Jawy Elite League for Under-21s.
Dayo Osho gave Al Faisaly an early lead on Monday evening, but Turki Al-Ghamil scored twice in the space of three minutes to turn the match around and put Al Hilal in front before half-time.
The result gives Al Hilal three points from their first match and provides an important start to their push for the Jawy Elite League title. Al Faisaly, meanwhile, will regret surrendering a promising position after taking the lead almost immediately.
Al Faisaly made the stronger start at the opening of the match, with Osho finding the net in the second minute. His finish put Al Hilal under pressure from the outset and gave Al Faisaly an early advantage.
Al Hilal gradually found a way back into the contest and levelled through Al-Ghamil in the 26th minute. The midfielder then struck again just three minutes later, completing a rapid turnaround and moving his side ahead at 2-1.
The two goals changed the momentum of the match, although the contest remained open. Al Faisaly continued to search for an equaliser, while Al Hilal looked to exploit spaces on the counter-attack and create danger through quick transitions.
Neither side was able to add to the score before the interval, despite the game maintaining a high level of intensity and both teams continuing to threaten.
The pattern continued after the restart, with the teams exchanging attacks and chances. Al Faisaly came close to restoring parity on more than one occasion, while Al Hilal sought a third goal to make the result more secure.
However, neither team was able to find the required quality in front of goal. Strong defensive work at both ends kept the score unchanged as the match moved towards its conclusion.
Al Hilal were awarded a penalty in added time, giving them the opportunity to settle the contest. Abdulaziz Jarmoush took responsibility for the spot-kick but missed in the final minute, leaving Al Faisaly with one last chance to try to rescue a point.
Despite that late reprieve, Al Faisaly could not find an equaliser and Al Hilal held on for victory at the final whistle.
The match therefore ended with Al Hilal recovering from an early setback to secure a 2-1 win, while Al Faisaly were left disappointed after leading from the second minute. Their decisive collapse came during a three-minute spell in the first half, when Al-Ghamil’s double transformed the outcome.
Video highlights of the match showed Al Hilal’s comeback victory, which sees them begin their second Jawy Elite League campaign with a valuable opening win.
