Al Hilal extend unbeaten Saudi Pro League run to 47 matches

Al Hilal have set a club record for their longest unbeaten run in the Saudi Pro League after beating city rivals Al Shabab 2-0 on Friday.

The victory at SHG Arena saw Al Hilal move closer to Al Ahli’s all-time league benchmark, with the reigning unbeaten record standing at 51 matches.

According to Opta, Al Hilal have now gone 47 Saudi Pro League matches without defeat. Their current sequence began in November 2024 with a 2-1 victory against Al Shabab, also away from home.

Since then, Al Hilal have recorded 35 wins and 12 draws.

The latest run surpasses their previous best, which lasted 46 matches between May 2023 and November 2024. During that earlier sequence, Al Hilal won 42 games and drew four.

Al Hilal are now four matches away from matching Al Ahli’s record, established between January 2014 and February 2016. If they avoid defeat in their next four league fixtures, they will equal that mark; a fifth match without losing would give them the outright record for the longest unbeaten sequence in Saudi league history.

Their next four Saudi Pro League matches are against Neom, Al Taawoun, Al Ittihad and Al Riyadh. The potential record-breaking fifth fixture would come against Al Hazem.

The unbeaten run has continued since Italian manager Simone Inzaghi arrived before the start of last season. Inzaghi has overseen 39 of Al Hilal’s matches during the sequence, guiding the club to 30 victories and nine draws.

The result against Al Shabab also maintained Al Hilal’s perfect start to the latest stage of their pursuit of Al Ahli’s record. Their achievement has been built on both consistency and improved defensive resilience, with the side having avoided defeat across a run that now stretches well beyond their own previous club benchmark.

Al Hilal’s earlier 46-match sequence had already represented one of the strongest unbeaten runs in the competition’s history. Their new total of 47 means they now hold the second-longest unbeaten run recorded by any team in the Saudi Pro League, behind only Al Ahli’s 51-match achievement.

The gap between the two sides could disappear quickly if Al Hilal continue their current form. Four more unbeaten performances would bring them level with Al Ahli, while success against Al Hazem in the following match could see them stand alone at the top of the league’s historical list.
