Al Hilal consider 50% salary cut for Crysencio Summerville

Al Hilal are waiting for the full match report and additional footage before deciding whether to punish Crysencio Summerville for his red card against Al Gharafa in the AFC Champions League Elite.

The Saudi Arabian club beat the Qatari side 2-1 on Tuesday in the opening round of the competition, but the match was overshadowed by a confrontation involving their Dutch winger.

The incident began in the 33rd minute when Al Gharafa player Abdelrahman Faiz became involved in an off-the-ball altercation with Summerville. The Al Hilal forward reacted angrily and forcefully pushed his opponent beyond the touchline.

The situation escalated when Al Gharafa winger Ismael Bennacer intervened and pulled Summerville by his hair. Players from both teams then became involved in a wider confrontation, with substitutes also taking part.

The referee subsequently dismissed both Summerville and Bennacer before the match resumed once order had been restored.

Saudi journalist Abdulrahman Abaoud said on the programme Dawrina Ghair that Al Hilal’s management would not take a final decision until it had received the detailed reports from the referee and the Asian Football Confederation.

The club is also expected to review further footage of the incident that led to Summerville’s dismissal. Abaoud said an internal fine could reach 50% of the player’s salary if he is found to have committed an offence.

That would match the level of punishment previously imposed on Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly, although no final decision has yet been made in Summerville’s case.

Abaoud wrote on 17 September 2026: “Al Hilal’s management is awaiting the detailed report on its match against Al Gharafa, in addition to viewing further footage of the incident that led to the dismissal of its Dutch player Summerville, to consider whether to impose a 50% deduction from the player’s salary based on the findings.”

The 24-year-old Summerville joined Al Hilal from English club West Ham during the most recent summer transfer window in a deal worth 64.50 million euros.
