Al-Hilal handed major boost with Kalidou Koulibaly’s return to training
Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has returned to full training with Al-Hilal, providing the Saudi Pro League side with a timely boost ahead of the start of the new season.
The experienced centre-back resumed normal training on Thursday after successfully recovering from a thigh injury, easing concerns over his fitness before the new campaign.
Defender passes fitness test
Koulibaly took part in Al-Hilal’s latest training session after passing medical examinations on the injury that had kept him sidelined during pre-season.
His return also puts to rest speculation surrounding his physical condition, with reports in recent weeks suggesting the Senegal international could be struggling with a long-term injury.
The 34-year-old’s availability comes as a significant lift for Al-Hilal, who are aiming to challenge for multiple trophies after a campaign that fell below expectations.
Al-Hilal target stronger season
Despite boasting one of the strongest squads in Saudi Arabian football, Al-Hilal finished last season with only the King’s Cup to show for their efforts.
The club will now be hoping that the return of key players such as Koulibaly strengthens their chances of competing for domestic and continental honours.
Future still uncertain
Koulibaly remains under contract with Al-Hilal until the end of next season.
However, reports continue to suggest the Senegalese defender could be registered only for the club’s AFC competitions, although no official decision has been announced regarding his role for the upcoming campaign.
