Al-Hazem’s Abdulaziz Al-Duwaikhil sets historic tone in Roshn Saudi League opener

Al-Hazem began the 2026-27 Roshn Saudi League season by repeating a landmark achievement for the second year in succession, scoring the competition’s opening goal before going on to beat Abha 2-1.

The new campaign started with the meeting between Abha and Al-Hazem in the opening round of the Saudi league. Al-Hazem made the faster start and took the lead after only three minutes, when Abdulaziz Al-Duwaikhil found the net.

His goal continued a sequence that has now been established across two successive seasons. According to football statistics provider Opta, Al-Hazem have scored the first goal of the Roshn Saudi League campaign in each of the past two editions.

The club’s previous contribution to the opening moment of the season came last term, when Portuguese forward Fabio Martins scored the first goal of the campaign. Al-Duwaikhil’s early strike means Al-Hazem have now repeated that distinction at the start of the new season.

The result also delivered another significant moment in Al-Hazem’s history. The victory over Abha was the first time the club had won its opening match in the Roshn Saudi League since beginning its participation in the competition.

Al-Hazem held on to claim a 2-1 victory, giving them three points from the first fixture of the 2026-27 campaign. Their success combined a notable team achievement with an individual milestone for Al-Duwaikhil, whose third-minute goal added his name to the league’s opening-day history.

The repeat feat has brought additional attention to the opening round of the competition, with Al-Hazem becoming the first side to provide the season’s opening scorer in consecutive editions. Opta’s records confirmed the continuation of the sequence after Martins had made the first mark during the previous campaign.

The Roshn Saudi League has increasingly attracted attention around the world because of the high-profile players involved, including prominent names from European football. That international profile has helped establish the competition as one of the most notable leagues globally.

For Al-Hazem, however, the first focus of the new season is a victory that had previously proved elusive in their opening fixtures. They not only secured their first opening-match win in the league, but also began the campaign with a record that had already belonged to them once before.
