Al Hazem ends Al Ahli’s bid for Saudi Pro League home-record history

Al Hazem denied Al Ahli the chance to set a new Saudi Pro League record after scoring against them in their seventh-round meeting.

Al Ahli had been on course to become the first team in the competition’s history to score at least three goals while keeping a clean sheet in four consecutive home matches. However, Al Hazem’s goal brought that pursuit to an end.

The Jeddah side had achieved the same attacking and defensive feat in each of their previous three home games. They began the run with a 3-0 victory over Al Kholood, followed that with a 4-0 win against Abha, and then defeated Riyadh 5-0.

Those results had seen Al Ahli equal the longest sequence of its kind in Saudi Pro League history. The existing record belongs to Al Hilal, who scored three or more goals without conceding in three successive home matches in 2015.

Al Hazem’s goal stopped Al Ahli’s run at three games and left the record beyond their reach for now, despite their impressive attacking form at home in recent matches.

Al Ahli still underlined their offensive strength in the fixture by scoring three times. England forward Ivan Toney scored twice, taking his tally to 10 goals in the Roshn Saudi League this season.

The result left Al Ahli with 12 points, placing them fifth in the table.
