Al-Fateh have informed manager Khaled Al-Atwi that he has been dismissed and have reached an agreement with Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami to take charge for one season, according to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah.
The appointment and Al-Atwi’s departure still require approval from the Saudi Pro League’s Financial Oversight Committee before they can be confirmed officially.
Al-Riyadiyah reported that Al-Fateh are not expected to face difficulties in obtaining that approval, as the club has no outstanding governance-related observations. The newspaper said the only remaining step before Sellami’s contract can be completed is approval from the Sustainability Committee for Al-Atwi’s dismissal.
Al-Fateh’s management had been negotiating with Sellami in recent weeks and reached an initial agreement for him to become the club’s head coach. He could take charge for the first time against Ahli Jeddah on Friday in the eighth round of the Saudi Pro League.
The developments follow a separate report by Asharq Al-Awsat that Al-Fateh had decided to end its contractual relationship with Al-Atwi by mutual consent. That decision came after a run of poor results in the Saudi Pro League.
The club moved quickly to identify a replacement, with Sellami emerging as the leading candidate to oversee the team for the remainder of the season.
Al-Fateh are currently 15th in the Saudi Pro League with three points. They have taken those points from three draws and lost their other four matches since the start of the season.
Sellami was most recently dismissed by the Jordan Football Association after Jordan were eliminated from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
The Moroccan coach led Jordan at the tournament in the United States, where they lost all three group matches against Argentina, Algeria and Austria.
Before that, Sellami guided Jordan to the final of the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar, where they were beaten by Morocco.
