Al Ain thrash Al Quwa Al Jawiya to make it two wins from two in AFC Champions League Elite

Al Ain secured a second consecutive victory in the AFC Champions League Elite by beating Iraq’s Al Quwa Al Jawiya 4-1 in the second round of the Western Region group stage.

Kaku put the UAE side ahead after 13 minutes, curling a shot beyond the Al Quwa Al Jawiya goalkeeper to give Al Ain an early lead.

Their advantage was doubled five minutes later when Saad Al Rosan turned the ball into his own net in the 18th minute.

Al Ain continued to dominate and scored again in the 23rd minute. Matheus Palacios delivered the cross, which Al Hosseini Rahimi converted to put the hosts 3-0 ahead.

Rahimi completed his brace shortly before half-time, finishing a move created by his brother, Soufiane Rahimi, in the 43rd minute.

Mohammed Jawad scored Al Quwa Al Jawiya’s only goal in the final minute, but it did little to change the outcome as Al Ain claimed all three points.

Egypt international defender Rami Rabia played the full match for Al Ain.

The result moved Al Ain to six points at the top of the Western Region standings, level with Esteghlal Khuzestan. It also confirmed Al Ain’s strong start after their victory in the opening round of the group stage.

In the other match involving the leading sides, Esteghlal Khuzestan beat Qatar’s Al Gharafa 2-1.

Jaser Asani and Hossein Goudarzi scored for Esteghlal Khuzestan, while Ferjani Sassi replied for Al Gharafa.

That victory took Esteghlal Khuzestan to six points, keeping them level with Al Ain at the summit. Al Gharafa remain without a point and sit 13th in the standings.
