Asamoah Gyan Extends Al Ain Contract Until 2018
Ghanaian international striker Asamoah Gyan has signed a two-year contract extension with Al Ain, committing his future to the United Arab Emirates-based club until 2018.
The announcement was made official by Al Ain on Thursday via the club’s website, as the 28-year-old returned from a turbulent off-season that was marred by a tragic incident involving the death of popular Ghanaian musician Castro and his companion, during a vacation that included Gyan.
Despite the personal turmoil, Gyan expressed joy at extending his stay with the club where he has become a prolific goal scorer and fan favourite.
“I am very happy to extend my contract here until 2018 and I thank the club’s board, management, and all the fans for their support,” Gyan said.
Since arriving at Al Ain in 2011 from Sunderland, Gyan has been a dominant force in front of goal, netting an astonishing 86 goals in 66 appearances. He has been the leading scorer in the Gulf region for the past three consecutive seasons, helping Al Ain to domestic glory and regional recognition.
His influence is not limited to the club level. Gyan once again proved his importance to the Ghana national team during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, scoring two goals in the tournament. In doing so, he became the highest-scoring African player in World Cup history — a feat that cements his legacy on the international stage.
The deal signals Al Ain’s intent to retain their top talents and continue building on their recent successes. Gyan, who captains the Ghanaian national side, has shown unwavering consistency in the UAE Pro League and remains one of Africa’s most high-profile exports.
Al Ain fans took to social media to express their delight at the extension, praising the striker’s dedication and contribution to the club’s continued success.
With the new contract in place, Gyan now looks ahead to the upcoming season, aiming to add to his impressive goal tally and lead Al Ain to further domestic and continental triumphs.
