Al Ahly SC defender Yasser Ibrahim earns a late call-up to join the Egyptian team camp towards the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Pharaohs trainer Rui Vitória has handed the central defender a late invitation following an injury to Osama Galal, who has been ruled out of the AFCON.
The 26-year-old Pyramids player was included in Vitória’s final squad list for the upcoming continental showpiece, starting in ten days’ time.
Ibrahim, who has been a stalwart in the Al Ahly defence in the past and current season, was omitted from the final roster after making the preliminary list.
AfricaSoccer.com understands Galal sustained the injury during the Pharaohs’ first training session at the newly built Olympic City Stadium in the New Administrative Capital on Tuesday.
Ibrahim, who has been touted as a fan favourite within the Egyptian media, will immediately take the place of Galal in the team as preparations continue.
Ibrahim, 30, played a critical role for the Red Devils in their CAF Champions League triumph last season. He has been impressive in the current campaign.
Ibrahim was on the scoresheet for Al Ahly when they saw off Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds to claim bronze medal at the FIFA World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
