Al Ahly’s women beat Al Jazira to make it three wins from three in Arab Championship

Al Ahly’s women’s basketball team continued their perfect start to the Arab Women’s Club Basketball Championship with a 90-67 victory over Al Jazira in Alexandria.

The Egyptian side established control during the second quarter and maintained their advantage for the remainder of the match to secure a third consecutive win in the competition.

Al Ahly led by just one point at the end of the opening period, with the score 20-19. However, they produced a much stronger second quarter and went into half-time 48-24 ahead.

The momentum remained with Al Ahly after the interval. Their players extended the gap during the third quarter, which ended with the Egyptian team holding a 74-46 advantage.

Al Jazira were unable to reduce the deficit in the final period as Al Ahly protected their lead and completed a comfortable 90-67 success.

The result means Al Ahly have won all three of their matches in this year’s Arab Women’s Club Basketball Championship, which is being held in Alexandria.

They began the tournament with a 98-86 victory over Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates. Al Ahly then followed that result with an 86-75 win against Al Fatat of Kuwait in their second match.

Their latest success over Al Jazira maintains that unbeaten record and gives them three victories from three games.

Sporting, the host club, also recorded their third win of the tournament after defeating Al Qurein of Kuwait 88-65.

The championship features six teams: Al Ahly, Al Jazira and Sporting from Egypt, Sharjah from the United Arab Emirates, and Al Qurein and Al Fatat from Kuwait.

Al Ahly’s win over Al Jazira was settled by their commanding performance in the middle stages of the game. Although Al Jazira stayed within one point after the first quarter, Al Ahly scored freely in the second and restricted their opponents to five points during that period.

That 24-point half-time margin gave Al Ahly a firm platform. Their advantage grew to 28 points by the end of the third quarter, and they remained in control through the closing period to finish 23 points clear.

With three successive victories, Al Ahly join Sporting in maintaining a winning record in the six-team tournament.
