Al Ahly’s ambitious transfer spree failed to inspire success at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as the Egyptian giants crashed out of the tournament at the group stage, finishing bottom of Group A with just two points from three matches.
Despite making six high-profile signings ahead of the competition, including Trezeguet, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, and Mohamed Ali Ben Ramadan, Al Ahly couldn’t secure a single win. They drew 0-0 with Inter Miami, 4-4 with Porto, and suffered a 2-0 defeat to Palmeiras.
Trezeguet featured in all three matches but failed to shine, missing a crucial penalty and failing to score or assist. Zizo, another big name, was largely ineffective, contributing two earned penalties but no goals or assists.
Ben Ramadan stood out, scoring against Porto and completing 74 of 83 passes. Defender Ahmed Ramadan Beckham made a solid emergency appearance, while Hamdi Fathi’s underwhelming performance, despite a goal, highlighted Al Ahly’s struggles.
Only five of the six signings saw action, as keeper Mohamed Ahmed Siha remained benched. Al Ahly now faces tough questions after a forgettable tournament.
