Former Egypt international Reda Abdel Aal has voiced sharp criticism of Al Ahly’s disciplinary action against attacker Imam Ashour following his absence from the squad’s trip to face Young Africans.
Ashour was handed a hefty fine and a two-week suspension for failing to join his teammates for the CAF Champions League clash, a sanction that could see him miss five key matches for the club.
Speaking privately about the situation, Abdel Aal said, “The statement to punish Imam Ashour is a joke from the Al-Ahly administration.
“Where are the principles of Al Ahly that they talk about, and which should have led to a decision to put the player up for sale?
“Zizo was the worst player in the Wadi Degla match, yet Imam Ashour left the match while he continued,” he added.
Al Ahly will face the Tanzanian side Young Africans today, January 31, at 3 p.m. in the fourth round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
