Al Ahly’s Amr El Gazar undergoes successful ACL surgery

Al Ahly have confirmed that Amr El Gazar has undergone successful surgery after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The midfielder sustained the injury during Al Ahly’s Egyptian Premier League match against Al Mokawloon Al Arab. He was forced to leave the field in the second half and was replaced by Hady Riyad.

Al Ahly doctor Ahmed Gaballah said: “Amr El Gazar underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee and repair the medial meniscus, under the supervision of German specialist Christian Bral, at a hospital in Munich.”

El Gazar is due to return to Cairo with Gaballah on Friday, when he will begin the first stage of his rehabilitation.

The injury brings El Gazar’s season to an official end, with the player expected to be sidelined for up to nine months.

He joined Al Ahly in January from National Bank of Egypt and has made four appearances for the club. He has not scored or provided an assist during those matches.
