Al-Ahly youth team advances to Egyptian youth cup semi-finals despite defeat
Al-Ahly’s youth football team, composed of players born in 2005, has advanced to the semi-finals of the Egyptian Youth Cup, overcoming an unexpected setback in their recent match.
Although the team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Al-Ismaily on Wednesday at Al-Ahly’s stadium in Al-Tagamoa, their accumulated points were enough to secure their spot in the semi-finals.
This latest match was part of the third round of the second group in the quarter-final league stage.
Al-Ahly’s youth, dubbed “Ahly 2005,” qualified for the semi-finals with five points, placing them second in their group after Al-Ismaily.
The two teams were tied with five points each, but Al-Ismaily claimed the top spot due to a head-to-head advantage.
The young Al-Ahly squad gathered their points through a series of strong performances.
In their opening match, they faced Haras El Hodood and claimed a victory in a penalty shootout after the game ended in a goalless draw.
They went on to secure a 1-0 win against Smouha in the second round, which added to their tally and positioned them for semi-final qualification despite Wednesday’s defeat.
