Al Ahly to take major squad decision

Egyptian giants Al Ahly are set to decide the future of several players currently out on loan, alongside players, whose long-term status at the club remains uncertain.

The discussion focuses on how loaned players will be handled after their spells away from the club, whether domestically or in Europe, as Al Ahly look to restructure parts of their squad ahead of the next phase of planning.

One of the most high-profile names in the file is young Egyptian striker Hamza Abdel Karim, who is currently on loan at FC Barcelona’s youth setup, with an option to buy included in the agreement.

Al Ahly reportedly agreed a clause allowing Barcelona to sign the player permanently for around €1.5 million, along with additional financial conditions.

The teenager has impressed during his time in Spain, delivering strong performances for Barcelona’s youth team, which has increased attention around his long-term future.

His development has even attracted internal discussion at the highest level, with Barcelona coach Hansi Flick reportedly monitoring his progress closely.

Interest in Abdel Karim has also grown at international level, with Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan including him in a preliminary squad list ahead of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

That inclusion has intensified speculation about whether the young striker will be fast-tracked into senior international football despite limited experience at top-flight level.

Alongside Abdel Karim, several other loan and foreign-based players are also part of the evaluation process, with their futures yet to be fully decided. They include, Reda Slim, Nedeljko Gradisar, Achraf Dari and Mohamed Dhaoui

Each case is being assessed individually based on performance, development progress, and future squad planning needs.

Al Ahly’s management is expected to make final decisions after reviewing player performances and negotiating potential buy options or returns to the squad.

The outcome of these evaluations could significantly shape the club’s squad depth and long-term strategy, particularly as they continue to balance domestic dominance with continental ambitions.
