Al Ahly weigh coaching options

Egyptian giants Al Ahly continues their search for a potential new head coach, with several prominent names under consideration as the club evaluates its options ahead of the new season.

A number of experienced managers have been linked with the role in recent days, including Hussein Ammouta, Walid Regragui, Mircea Lucescu and Mark van Bommel, while other candidates are also believed to be under review.

Despite the speculation, Al Ahly have yet to reach a final decision as attention remains focused on resolving the future of current manager Jess Thorup.

The Egyptian giants are reportedly exploring the legal and financial implications of ending the coach’s contract before moving forward with any appointment. One option being considered would allow the club to terminate the agreement by paying the compensation stipulated in the contract, bringing the matter to a close before a successor is unveiled.

However, there are differing views on the best course of action. Some believe Al Ahly should act quickly to secure a new coach and begin preparations for the upcoming campaign, while others feel the club must first conclude the current managerial situation before making any announcement.

The uncertainty surrounding the dugout comes at a busy time for the Cairo-based club, which is also working to resolve several contract matters within the squad. Renewal talks involving key players, including Hussein El Shahat and Ahmed Nabil Kouka, remain ongoing.

With several managerial candidates reportedly on the radar and no final decision yet taken, Al Ahly’s coaching search remains open, with significant developments expected once the club settles the future of its current head coach.
