Al Ahly to play two friendlies in one day before Spain training camp

Al Ahly will play two friendly matches on the same day as part of their preparations for the new season, just 24 hours before travelling to Spain for a pre-season training camp.

The Egyptian club will face Delfi on Wednesday, 5 August, after the fixture was announced by Delfi. Al Ahly will then meet Petrol Asyut later that evening, with the two games scheduled to take place within a two-hour period.

Al Ahly are due to play Delfi at 18:00 local time, followed by the meeting with Petrol Asyut at 20:00.

The double-header will provide manager Hussein Ammouta with another opportunity to assess his squad before the team leaves for Spain on 6 August. The club have already played two pre-season matches under the Moroccan coach, winning 5-1 against Al Nasr before recording a 7-1 victory over Laviena.

The Spain camp will include a high-profile fixture against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August.

Al Ahly have also added four players to their squad during the summer. The new arrivals are Algerian forward Monsef Bekrar, Moroccan striker Soufiane Benjdida, Ali Mahmoud and Aqtay Abdullah.

The club have also seen several players depart. Mostafa El Ash and Mohamed Shokry have moved to Al Masry, while Aliou Dieng has joined Spanish club Valencia.

Ahmed Abedine has left for Wadi Degla, and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet departed after terminating his contract.

The two matches against Delfi and Petrol Asyut will therefore form the final stages of Al Ahly’s preparations in Egypt before the squad begins its overseas camp. The timing means the club will have to manage its players across both fixtures on the same day, with the first match beginning at 18:00 and the second scheduled for 20:00.

Al Ahly’s opening wins under Ammouta have produced 12 goals in two games, with the side scoring five against Al Nasr and seven against Laviena. The matches against Delfi and Petrol Asyut will give the coaching staff further competitive preparation before the team travels to Spain.

The club’s schedule will then culminate in the meeting with Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August, one of the main fixtures of their build-up to the new season.
