Al Ahly to keep Hussein Ammouta regardless of Zamalek derby result

Al Ahly will not dismiss Hussein Ammouta if they lose Sunday’s Egyptian Premier League derby against Zamalek, according to former club player and television presenter Ahmed Shobier.

The two Cairo rivals meet at Cairo International Stadium in the sixth round of the competition, with the result carrying significant weight in the battle for top spot.

Zamalek are second in the table with 13 points, while Al Ahly are third on the same total. Zamalek’s advantage is only their superior goal difference.

The fixture had prompted questions over Ammouta’s position, particularly if Al Ahly were to suffer defeat. However, Shobier said the club’s management had already decided that the match would not determine the Moroccan coach’s future.

Speaking on television, Shobier said information from a source inside Al Ahly indicated that Ammouta would remain in charge until the end of the season, regardless of the outcome against Zamalek.

The derby is scheduled for Sunday evening.
