Al Ahly to face CAF’s wrath after CAF Champions League elimination

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) are reportedly considering punishing Al Ahly after their Champions League exit at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns.

The reigning African champions suffered an elimination after being held to a 1-1 draw against the Brazilians over the weekend at the Cairo International Stadium.

After the game, Al Ahly supporters expressed their displeasure by throwing bottles at head coach Marcel Koller and the refereeing team after the clash.

Following the incident, CAF is considering imposing a fine on the Egyptians following the incidents with their supporters at the Cairo Stadium on Friday night.

The report adds that the referee did add the supporters’ bottle-throwing incident in his referee’s report after the encounter.

Earlier this month, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Esperance were all fined by CAF for their supporters’ behaviour in the quarter-final round.

Former Zamalek star Ahmed Hassan criticised the Al Ahly supporters for their actions after the game.

“This scene is unacceptable to see, especially from the fans of Al-Ahly club; it is not befitting,” Hassan said on DMC.

“The scene of throwing bottles at Koller is not appropriate, no matter what, this man has achieved successes with Al-Ahly club; he should enter respectfully and leave with utmost politeness and respect.”

“The act of attacking Koller with bottles is unacceptable, and this is not the way of Al-Ahly fans.”

Meanwhile, Dr Patrice Motsepe, who is the president of CAF has vowed to deal with the rise of stadium violence in Africa.
