Al Ahly to consider 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup withdrawal amid poor performance
Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC are reportedly weighing the possibility of skipping the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup if they fail to secure a top-two finish in the Egyptian Premier League this season, according to multiple reports in Egypt.
The powerhouse currently sit third on the league table with 50 points and are set for a crucial domestic fixture against Al Masry SC as the season approaches its decisive stage ahead of the May 20 conclusion.
Sources suggest that qualification for continental competition remains a key factor in the club’s decision-making, with participation in the Confederation Cup potentially off the table if they miss out on a higher league finish.
However, Al Ahly could still feature on the continental stage through a different route.
The club is expected to participate in the African Football League should the competition be reintroduced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), adding an alternative pathway to international football next season.
The situation leaves the Cairo-based side facing an important few weeks, with both domestic positioning and continental ambitions hanging in the balance as the campaign nears its climax.
