Al Ahly to appeal FIFA ruling in favour of Jose Riveiro
Al Ahly have confirmed they will take formal action against the FIFA Players’ Status Chamber ruling in favour of former head coach Jose Riveiro.
The Spanish manager was dismissed by the Cairo giants in August last year, and FIFA has since ordered the club to pay financial compensation.
In an official statement, Al Ahly revealed that Dr. Abdullah Shahat, the club’s legal adviser for the football sector, will lead the appeal process before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The ruling awarded Riveiro a total of 588,000 dollars, which includes the three‑month penalty clause specified in his contract with the club.
The club stressed that this decision is not final and that there are further legal avenues available. Shahat explained that Al Ahly will file their appeal within a maximum of three weeks, once they receive the full written reasoning of FIFA’s decision in favour of the Spanish coach.
He underlined that the appeal will follow all recognized legal procedures, reflecting the club’s determination to defend its position while respecting international regulations.
