Al Ahly suspend players' dues after draw

Al Ahly have reportedly decided to suspend the financial entitlements of their first-team players indefinitely following their disappointing 3-3 draw against Al Qanah in the Egyptian Premier League.

The decision comes after the Egyptian giants surrendered two valuable points in the seventh round of the 2026/27 campaign, raising concerns over their recent performance as they continue their pursuit of the league title.

According to Egyptian outlet Batolat, Al Ahly’s officials have opted to freeze the players’ financial dues indefinitely in response to the disappointing result.

The club are understood to be unhappy with the outcome, having expected to collect maximum points against Al Qanah and strengthen their position in the title race.

The 3-3 draw leaves Al Ahly with 17 points from seven matches, placing them second in the league standings. They have recorded five victories and two draws so far this season.

Al Qanah, meanwhile, moved to eight points to occupy 11th position after securing a valuable result against the Cairo-based outfit.

The reported sanction represents a stern response from Al Ahly’s hierarchy as they seek to maintain high standards within the squad and prevent further dropped points in the coming weeks.

The draw also adds pressure on the team to respond positively in their next assignments, with expectations remaining high given the club’s domestic and continental ambitions.

Al Ahly will now turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup, where they are scheduled to host Ugandan side Kitara in the second leg of their Round of 32 tie on Sunday, October 25, at Cairo International Stadium.

The Egyptian side claimed a 2-1 victory in the first leg and will be aiming to build on that advantage to secure qualification for the next round.

With important fixtures ahead, Al Ahly will be eager to put the disappointment against Al Qanah behind them and return to winning ways, while the reported suspension of players’ financial entitlements could serve as an additional source of motivation for the squad.
