Al Ahly have once again shown why they are Africa’s most consistent force, holding on to the number one spot in the latest CAF club rankings for the 2025-2026 season.
The Egyptian giants kept their place despite missing out on the CAF Champions League crown last term, proving that sustained performance over time still counts.
The rankings, announced by CAF on Friday ahead of the Champions League and Confederation Cup draws, brought mixed fortunes for other heavyweights. Tunisia’s Esperance, who were second last season, slipped to third, making way for South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in second. Egypt’s Zamalek fell from fifth to seventh, while Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca dropped from third to eighth.
Pyramids FC, last season’s African champions, enjoyed the biggest climb, jumping from 15th to sixth. Morocco’s RS Berkane also rose, moving from sixth to fourth after lifting the Confederation Cup.
