Al Ahly is not backing down from its support of Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, even as pressure mounts following a rough start in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The Egyptian giants, after a goalless draw with Inter Miami and a loss to Palmeiras, now face a crucial match against Porto.
Despite public criticism, club officials insist now isn’t the time to judge Riveiro. An Al Ahly source told Kooora that while they understand fan frustration, the club remains focused on long-term goals.
“We respect the anger of the fans and understand their feelings. We have received clear instructions from the management not to respond to criticism, because the fans are cheering and supporting the club for free, and they have the right to be angry as they praise.”
The official cited five key reasons for the team’s dip: player fatigue from five tough competitions, Riveiro’s late arrival in May, unfit new signings, U.S. weather challenges, and several major injuries, including Emam Ashour and Taher Mohammed Taher.
Al Ahly’s resolve remains firm as they look ahead.
