Al Ahly sign Moroccan League top scorer Soufiane Benjdida on three-year deal

Egyptian giants Ahly have completed the signing of Moroccan forward Soufiane Benjdida from MAS Fes on a three-year contract as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The Cairo-based club confirmed that all administrative and financial procedures for the transfer had been concluded, although the exact fee was not revealed. Reports from Egyptian and Moroccan media indicate that Ahly paid around $2.7 million to secure the services of the prolific striker.

The 24-year-old arrives at Ahly after a remarkable campaign in Morocco, where he finished as the league’s top scorer with 20 goals in 31 appearances for MAS Fes. His goalscoring exploits helped the club secure its first league title in 41 years and the fifth championship in its history.

Benjdida began his professional career with Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca, scoring 13 goals and registering four assists in 65 appearances before moving to Belgian club SL16 FC in 2023.

He later earned promotion to Standard Liege’s first team in 2024, where he scored three goals in 18 appearances before returning to Morocco to join MAS Fes in August 2025.

The Moroccan forward becomes Ahly’s third signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of winger Aqtay Abdallah and midfielder Ali Mahmoud from Enppi.

The Egyptian champions have been searching for a reliable striker since the departure of Palestinian forward Wessam Abou Ali last summer. Previous attacking reinforcements, including Portuguese-Angolan striker Leltsin Camoes and Marwan Osman, struggled to meet expectations, forcing former coach Jess Thorup to rely on Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki in a central attacking role.

Ahly are undergoing a major rebuild after a disappointing season in which they finished third in the Egyptian Premier League and managed only the Egyptian Super Cup, missing out on other major domestic and continental honours.

The club recently appointed Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta as their new head coach, with the experienced tactician tasked with restoring Ahly’s dominance and returning the team to trophy-winning ways.
