Al Ahly showed toughness and character to earn a thrilling 3-2 win over Petrojet on Wednesday evening at the Military College Stadium, in the third round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Under new interim boss Emad El Nahhas, the Red Devils bounced back from their Champions League exit and found their rhythm again. The win lifts them to 43 points, keeping the pressure on leaders Pyramids, who are four points ahead.
Wissam Abu Ali gave Al Ahly an early lead in the 10th minute after a sharp pass from Imam Ashour. Five minutes later, Amr El Soliah doubled the advantage with a composed finish inside the box.
Petrojet refused to roll over. Rashad El Metwally converted a penalty just before halftime, and Emmanuel Lucky equalised moments later from a fine cross.
But Al Ahly’s response was quick. In the 64th minute, Slovenian forward Nets Gradishar fired in the winner with a brilliant strike.
Though Imam Ashour had a goal ruled out and Petrojet pressed late, key defensive stops from Yasser Ibrahim and Hussein El Shehhat secured the win.
