Al Ahly shortlist three defenders ahead of January transfer window

Al Ahly have shortlisted three Egyptian defenders as they begin preparations for the January transfer window, with head coach Hussein Ammouta set to have a major say in the club’s recruitment plans.

Al Ahly officials are expected to hold an important meeting with Ammouta after his return from the holiday granted to the coaching staff and players, with the team’s defensive needs likely to be high on the agenda.

The club’s scouting department has been working on a list of potential defensive reinforcements and is expected to present the names to Ammouta for assessment before Al Ahly decide which targets to pursue.

Among the defenders under consideration are Mostafa Ibrahim of Al Ittihad Alexandria, ZED FC’s Mohamed Hussein and Mahmoud Al-Jazzar of Al Ahly Bank.

The three players have emerged as notable options on Al Ahly’s shortlist as the club assesses ways to strengthen its defensive department during the winter transfer window.

The scouting department, which includes Ahmed Abu Muslim and Nafeh Abdel Dayem, is also monitoring other players, including options from outside the Egyptian Premier League.

Ammouta’s assessment will be important in determining the positions that require reinforcement and the profiles that best fit his tactical plans.

The club is expected to coordinate closely with the technical staff and sporting management before making a final decision on its January recruitment targets.
