Al Ahly sets the record straight on Zamalek invitations
Al Ahly has moved to clear the air as talk swirled around its relationship with rival Zamalek in the build-up to their Premier League clash.
With emotions running high ahead of Monday’s ninth-round game, the club emphasized that respect and tradition still guide their dealings off the pitch.
A source inside Al Ahly denied claims of tension over the number of invitations handed to Zamalek officials for the match. The source told Kooora, “We have already sent 25 special invitations to Zamalek, 20 to the main box and 5 to the front box.”
He stressed that the bond between both clubs remains intact. “We have a special relationship with the Zamalek management, and we have the utmost respect and appreciation for them. However, this is what has been happening in recent times, according to the regulations and the security meeting.”
Addressing the talk of reciprocity, he added, “The term ‘reciprocity’ from Zamalek does not carry negative connotations, because it actually happens to both of them and us.”
As the league table shows, Zamalek sits on top with 17 points, while Al Ahly chases from seventh with 12.
