Al Ahly have made a sharp turn in their preseason plans, opting to relocate their training camp to Tunisia instead of Spain.

The Egyptian giants will now prepare for the new campaign in the northern city of Tabarka.

Although the club had already secured visas and received an offer for a Spanish camp, football management decided a change of scenery was best. The choice is also strategic, allowing the team to face strong North African opposition in their preseason matches.

A club insider told Kooora that, Al Ahly’s football management has decided to hold the preparatory camp for the new season in the city of Tabarka in northern Tunisia.

“Spanish coach Jose Riveiro has agreed to move the camp to Tunisia, especially since it will include three friendly matches, one of which will be against Etoile du Sahel to celebrate its centenary,” the insider said.

“The team will return to training on July 12th, with physical measurements followed by three days of training before traveling to Tunisia to begin the training camp in the middle of this month.”
