Al Ahly set to unveil new head coach after Jess Thorup exit

Egyptian giants Al Ahly are expected to announce their new head coach within the coming days, as the club moves swiftly to reset its technical leadership following the departure of Jess Thorup.

The Red Devils have undergone a significant shake-up in their coaching structure this week after failing to secure qualification for the CAF Champions League. The disappointing league finish saw Thorup dismissed, while the club simultaneously appointed a new technical director as part of a broader restructuring project.

Al Ahly will compete in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup after finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League, a position that fell short of their usual continental ambitions.

According to media reports in Egypt, the club has already finalised an agreement with a new foreign coach, with an official announcement expected early next week.

“The signing of the official contracts will be soon, and it is expected that Al Ahly will announce the appointment of the new coach next week,” journalist Prince Hisam said on Modern Sport.

He added that negotiations had been handled under tight secrecy, though the deal has now reportedly been concluded, contributing to the swift decision to part ways with Thorup.

“So far, there is a great deal of secrecy regarding the foreign coach file, but as of now, it is certain that the club has finalised the contract, which is why they expedited Jes Torup’s departure from the club swiftly,” he said.

Several names continue to circulate in connection with the role, including Bruno Lage, Mark van Bommel and Miguel Cardoso, all of whom have been linked with the high-profile vacancy at the Cairo-based club.
