Al Ahly seizes the top spot in a night of red cards
Al Ahly continued their winning run in the Egyptian Premier League, defeating Al Ittihad 2-1 at Cairo International Stadium in a gripping match full of drama.
Ashraf Bencharki netted Al Ahly’s opener in the 15th minute after a clever pass from Ahmed Zizo Mostafa. Zizo later doubled Al Ahly’s lead from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute. Al Ittihad did not give up easily, with Fadi Farid pulling one back in the 69th minute after being set up by Abubakar Liyadi.
This marked Al Ahly’s first domestic fixture under new Danish coach Jess Thorup, after their Champions League victory over Eagle Noir last weekend. With this win, Al Ahly rose to 21 points, taking first place and securing their sixth league victory, while Al Ittihad stayed at 8 points in 17th position.
The game was heated, with the referee issuing red cards to Al Ahly’s Ahmed Nabil Koka and Al Ittihad’s Karim El Dib in the dying minutes. Despite chaos, Al Ahly’s defense held firm, and the fans celebrated another crucial step towards defending their crown.
