Al Ahly has launched a legal push to protect its interests after parting ways with Swiss coach Marcel Koller.
Following his dismissal after the African Champions League semi-final loss to South Africa’s Sundowns, the club turned to international legal experts to interpret a key penalty clause in his contract.
“After the investigation that took place at Al Ahly yesterday and today, it turned out that Koller and his agent confirmed that the penalty clause represents the rest of the contract value until June 2026,” a source told Kooora.
“This means that he is demanding 3 million and 80 thousand euros, in addition to the 220 thousand euros salary for the month of April.”
According to the source, Al Ahly officials insist the contract only runs through June 2025 unless both parties agree to extend it, which they claim did not happen.
“Al-Ahly has settled on resorting to international lawyers and experts to explain the matter before making a final decision whether to resort to FIFA or reach an amicable solution.”
